Success Story: Brenda Coskey – From Tech Student to Business Leader

Brenda Coskey’s journey began in 2000 at CTU Training Solutions Menlyn (Hatfield) campus, where she pursued CompTIA A+, Network+, and Microsoft MCE certifications. Her education set the foundation for a career that would see her making significant contributions to technology and education, and later, entrepreneurship.

Her first role as a technician at Neural Act exposed her to innovative call centre software development, predicting call volumes for major banks like Saambou and Absa. Brenda’s expertise led to a position at Saambou bank, where she remained until its closure. Her commitment to advancing her skills was evident as she continued her studies while working, which led to a pivotal transition in her career—from technician to educator.

Recognised for her talent and dedication, Brenda was offered a training position at the college where she once studied. She excelled in teaching CompTIA and End User subjects such as MS Office, which caught the attention of TUT (Tshwane University of Training). At TUT, Brenda became the subject head for seven courses nationally and played a crucial role in training 1,000 high school typing teachers in the new CAT (Computer Application Training) curriculum.

Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to start Pretoria Web, a venture that allowed students to build websites part-time. This business not only provided income but also innovative web and application development services. Brenda’s life took a personal turn when she chose to focus on raising her son, diagnosed with autistic ADHD, using her business as a steady income source.

In 2018, Brenda ventured back into the corporate world by founding cablElec, an electrical cable and accessories wholesale company, creating job opportunities for her children and others. By 2024, both Pretoria Web and cablElec were thriving businesses.

Brenda credits CTU for providing the best start in her career. As the only female student and often the only female employee in her departments, the training she received not only equipped her with technical skills but also built her resilience. She reflects, “CTU made me a stronger person, and I will always be thankful. It was affordable and convenient for a single mom, and more importantly, it was excellent training.”

Brenda’s story is a powerful testament to how determination, continuous learning, and a supportive educational environment can lead to diverse and successful career paths.
