Eleven years ago, Marijke Lindeque faced a pivotal moment in her career path. Originally planning to study to become a Chartered Accountant, Marijke found herself questioning her future during her final year of high school. The turning point came when a representative from CTU Training Solutions visited her school, introducing her to various study opportunities. Among them, Graphic Design unexpectedly caught her eye—a surprising choice given her background in music and dance rather than traditional art.
With some apprehension, Marijke applied to the programme, completed the required tasks, and to her astonishment, was accepted. This marked the beginning of a transformative journey. Today, Marijke is not only thriving in the design industry but also leads a creative team as a studio manager. Her story is a testament to where passion and the right education can lead.
Choosing CTU was a decision that felt intuitively right for Marijke, supported by her parents and the practical-focused curriculum offered by the institution. CTU’s emphasis on hands-on learning over theoretical knowledge equipped Marijke with vital industry skills from the outset. She was prepared to use the necessary software without needing significant additional training, a testament to the practical applications of her studies at CTU. Furthermore, the requirement to complete certain hours of practical work as part of her studies exposed her early on to real clients and collaborative projects with design agencies.
Marijke’s education at CTU not only prepared her professionally but also helped her build lasting personal relationships, some of which have evolved into lifelong friendships. Although not many professional relationships flourished during her studies, the network she built has occasionally opened doors for collaborative opportunities, highlighting the enduring value of her connections.
Reflecting on her educational journey, Marijke recalls moments of doubt, particularly when faced with harsh criticism from a lecturer. However, these instances taught her the importance of resilience and the constructive nature of critique, which ultimately pushed her to excel. A standout memory from her time at CTU was being selected for a three-week exchange programme in Sweden, an experience that enriched her understanding and skills in her field significantly.
Marijke’s advice to aspiring designers is resonant and clear: “Don’t ever give up on your dreams. No matter how difficult it gets, if you work hard and learn from the challenges, you can always come out on top and be a success.”
Looking ahead, Marijke aspires to advance her career further, possibly branching into business-related areas. Her foundation at CTU Training Solutions has not only shaped her professional life but also her personal growth and future ambitions.
