1. Eligibility

The CTU Design Jam Competition is open to Grade 12 learners currently attending a registered South African high school. 

Participants may enter: 

• As part of a team of three (3) learners; or 

• As an individual participant. 

Individual participants may be allocated to a team by CTU for the purposes of participating in the competition. 

CTU reserves the right to combine teams, allocate participants to alternative teams, amend the competition structure, or cancel a campus event should insufficient entries be received. 

2. Competition Dates & Locations

The CTU Design Jam Competition will take place from 6–8 July 2026. 

The competition will be hosted at the following CTU campuses: 

• CTU Pretoria 

• CTU Roodepoort 

Daily competition times are from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. 

CTU reserves the right to confirm, change or cancel a campus location depending on final participation numbers and operational requirements. 

3. Competition Structure

Teams will take part in a series of creative design challenges over the course of the competition.

Each team will be guided by CTU lecturers and may receive support from senior CTU design students.

Participants will be required to complete and submit design deliverables within the allocated competition timeframes.

All work must be completed during the competition, unless otherwise instructed by CTU.

4. Team Formation

Participants entering individually acknowledge and agree that CTU may place them into a team with other participants. 

Team composition will be determined solely by CTU and may include learners from different schools. 

Once allocated, teams may not be changed without the prior approval of CTU.

5. School Representation 

Teams entered by a school or nominated by a teacher will represent that school. 

Teams formed by CTU from individual entrants may consist of learners from multiple schools and will not be deemed to represent any single school. 

6. Judging & Awards

Submissions will be judged by CTU lecturers and/or appointed judges. 

Judging criteria may include creativity, originality, concept development, teamwork, presentation, and final execution. 

The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into. 

Awards may include: 

Daily Token Awards 
These may include fun daily awards such as Most Creative, Best Progress, Best Team Spirit, or similar recognition awards. 

Team Award 

Each member of the winning team at each participating campus will receive a partial bursary towards their first-year studies at CTU, subject to the specific programme requirements and bursary conditions. Bursaries are not transferable and may not be exchanged for cash. 

School Award 

The School Award will only be available where two (2) or more schools are represented at a participating campus. 

The School Award may only be awarded to a school represented by a school-nominated team. 

Teams comprising learners from multiple schools or teams formed by CTU from individual entrants will not qualify for the School Award. 

The School Award is only available where at least two schools are represented at a participating campus. 

All teams, including school-nominated teams and CTU-allocated teams, will be judged according to the same criteria 

The decision regarding the allocation of the School Award shall be made by CTU and the judging panel, whose decision shall be final. 

7. Code of Conduct

Participants are expected to behave respectfully towards fellow learners, CTU staff, judges, student assistants and campus visitors.

Any form of plagiarism, dishonesty, inappropriate conduct, damage to property, or failure to follow instructions may result in disqualification.

CTU reserves the right to remove or disqualify any participant or team that does not comply with the competition rules or campus conduct requirements.

8. Promotions & Media Consent

By entering the competition, participants and their parents/guardians acknowledge that CTU may photograph, film or record activities during the event.

CTU may use photographs, videos, submitted designs and competition-related content for marketing, social media, website, PR and promotional purposes.

Where required, written consent must be provided by a parent or legal guardian before a learner may participate in any photographed or recorded activities.

9. General Terms

CTU reserves the right to amend the competition format, dates, prizes, judging process, locations or any other details if necessary.

CTU reserves the right to cancel or postpone the competition due to unforeseen circumstances, low participation, operational requirements or any reason deemed necessary by CTU.

No cash alternative will be offered for any bursary, prize, donation or voucher.

Participation in the competition does not guarantee admission to CTU or any CTU programme.

By entering the competition, participants, parents/guardians and schools agree to abide by these Rules, Terms & Conditions.
