20352: National Certificate Public Sector Accounting NQF 4 Learnership

Help improve public sector financial management by adding value, efficiency and productivity to government departments.
Course Prerequisites:
  • Grade 11, NQF 3 or equivalent. You must be at least 16 years of age. No prior accounting knowledge needed.

    Instructor-Led Training (ILT)

    Attend training in a classroom environment at a campus near you. Instructor-led training is still the number one delivery method of choice because it allows you to interact and discuss the training material, either individually or in a group setting, and you gain access to expert knowledge from certified instructors. This form of guided learning is impactful and produces positive learning outcomes. Day, evening and Saturday classes are offered.

    * groups smaller than 20 will fall into the Full-time Career Programme commencing in the month of February each year, groups larger than 20 are not restricted to specific starting dates and can be customised according to client’s needs. Price includes all course material and a CTU Certificate of Attendance.

    Bookkeeping to Trial Balance:

    • An introduction to business, bookkeeping and accounting
    • Value Added Tax and source documents
    • Recording cash transactions
    • Recording credit and sundry transactions
    • Inventory systems
    • Individual accounts for debtors and creditors
    • The bank reconciliation process
    • Supplier/creditor and general ledger reconciliations

    Public Accounting Administration:

    • Introduction to income tax
    • Payroll administration
    • Employees tax
    • Accounting for payroll
    • Completing tax returns
    • Structure of the South African public sector
    • The role of the financial management system in the public sector
    • Revenue as a key aspect of public financial management
    • Expenditure as a key aspect of public financial management
    • The legislative framework governing financial management in the public sector
    • Ethics in the South African public sector
    • Introduction to supply chain management
    • Introduction to cash management

    Computerised Bookkeeping:

    • Installation and registration of Pastel Partner V12
    • Pastel language and navigation
    • Creating and setting up a company in Pastel Partner V12
    • Create and maintain general ledger accounts
    • Create and maintain supplier accounts
    • Create and maintain inventory items
    • Take on balances and journals
    • Supplier processing
    • Customer processing
    • Cash book, petty cash and journal processing
    • Month end procedures and year end procedures

    Business Literacy:

    • The key principles of effective business communication
    • Working with numbers: an introduction
    • Spoken communication
    • Working with fractions and decimal numbers
    • Written communication
    • Percentages, ratios, proportions and equations
    • Work readiness
    • Using interest rates in business
    • Measure, analyse and communicate workplace data
