Engineering Foundation (N1-N2)

Engineering, the application of knowledge, typically in the form of science, mathematics, and empirical evidences to the innovation, design, construction, operation and maintenance of structures, machines and materials. This course is an introduction to learning and applying the principles required to solve engineering problems. Concepts will be applied in this course from previous courses you have taken in basic math and physics.

Career Focus

  • Conduct research to develop new and improved manufacturing processes
  • Establish safety procedures for those working with dangerous chemicals
  • Develop processes for separating components of liquids and gases, or for generating electrical currents, by using controlled chemical processes
  • Design and plan the layout of equipment
  • Conduct tests and monitor the performance of processes throughout production
  • Troubleshoot problems with manufacturing processes
  • Evaluate equipment and processes to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations
  • Estimate production costs for management.

EXAMINATION

Department of Higher Education & Training (DHET) is the only Examination body responsible to set and administer National Examinations.
Only students who have registered and complied with the administration requirement will be allowed to write examination.

NATIONAL QUALIFICATION

  • National Certificate:N1 Engineering Foundation (SAQA ID 67109, NQF Level 1)
  • Certificates and Diplomas are issued by the DHET. The release of Statements of results and Certificates are dependent on DHET Timeline.
