Diploma: Visual Communication

Visual communication (also referred to as graphic design) implies the development of design solutions to persuade, entertain, inform, and educate an observing audience regarding products, services and ideas. The field of visual communication encompasses the development of corporate identity, packaging design, editorial design, promotional campaigns, interactive media and web design.

The purpose of this qualification is to:

  • Develop students ability to develop innovative and appropriate design solutions
  • Foster the effective communication of ideas
  • Advance students’ technical skill in the execution of design solutions
  • Supply students with a theoretical knowledge that underpins practical execution

Text Books:

Access to text books on O’Reilly Online Learning is included in the fees.


A laptop* and a minimum of 20 GB data per month (uncapped recommended) are required to access training material.

Compulsory Adobe CC student yearly subscription for an estimated R2800. Request more information from your campus.

Optional Resources

A digital drawing tablet with stylus is recommended.

National Senior Certificate (NSC) or equivalent with diploma exemption, with a minimum of 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the higher education institution as certified by Umalusi, coupled with an achievement rating of 3 (Moderate Achievement, 40-49%) or better in four recognised NSC 20-credit subjects.
